Coastal Dawn

The first light of day breaks across a quiet stretch of coastline as soft lavender clouds rise above the Atlantic and warm sunlight begins to touch the dunes and shoreline. Painted from observations along North Carolina's Crystal Coast, Coastal Dawn celebrates the fleeting colors and expansive skies that define the coastal landscape in the early hours of the morning.

Broad, expressive brushwork emphasizes atmosphere over detail, allowing shifting light and color to become the true subject of the painting. The distant shoreline, water tower, and scattered beach homes provide a sense of place while remaining secondary to the vast sky overhead.
